Owners who do not get their dog microchipped and registered with an approved database could face a fine of up to £500. By law, since 6 April 2016, all dogs in England, Scotland and Wales must be microchipped. The only exception to this is for those who a vet believes should be exempt for health reasons.

MICROCHIPPING FOR CATS
Currently, cats do not have to be microchipped by law in the UK, but that is about to change. On the 12/05/2021 the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) announced that microchipping will become compulsory for cats in the United Kingdom as part of an Action Plan for Animal Welfare.
Microchipping your kitten or cat provides the best chance of them being returned to you if they are lost or stolen. Microchips cannot be removed or lost like collars and ID tags and they are safe, easy to implant and effective.
